the other day i, lauren, enjoyed an afternoon indulging myself in an activity that brings me happily back to my south african roots. i, along with some dear friends (who happen to be australian and so therefore similar in mind toward this dear sport) attended a local rugby match. for a bonus, the team we were there to watch (in red in the pictures) even won!
hugh played on this team along with some friends for a short period of time last year … long enough to injure his shoulder to the point of needing surgery :) . now he hasn’t gotten surgery, so don’t be worried, and won’t for a while as long as he faithfully does his physical therapy (which will need to be done for the rest of his life. nice, huh?). the surgeon, who has torn his own shoulder up quite a few times, recommended that hugh put the surgery off as long as possible, which hugh was happy to comply with (especially considering that surgery will mean a guaranteed 6-12 months of no working out, no surfing, and basically nothing fun that would use that shoulder!)
anyway, now that you’re updated on hugh and his shoulder, back to the real story behind this blog :) the amusement that is watching rugby.
the, uh, die-hard Red Eyes fans… (note that jim is indeed too engrossed in the game to care about the picture)
the scrum, what a friend compared to ballet (though the organization and fluid movement of a scrum does lend itself to a comparison, the roughness of the sport in general makes me reluctant to fully agree. i’m not sure whether i agree with her yet):
and i know that this is a bit overdue, but we had no blog then and since, no reason to bring it up… but GO SPRINGBOKS! yes, for all of you out there that care, and even those who don’t … the south african springbok rugby team won the rugby world cup this year! go springboks!
